The Mamluk Empire and the Crusader Empire
Mamluks came to power in around 1250 in Egypt and took power for themselves. They created an empire in Egypt spreading later to Syria, which survived until 1517 when they were overthrown by the Ottomans. Many of the buildings the Mamluks built in Cairo have distinctive features which are distinctive from Frankish architecture. And there's a lot of diplomacy that goes on.
