The Importance of Species in Zoology

Deuteronomy 14.5 lists domesticated ruminants along with some wild species that are also ruminants and also acceptable deer in the gazelle. Other large animals, again, that don't meet these criteria are forbidden. When it gets to creatures of the water, those that are permitted have fins and scales. And it excludes mollusks and crustaceans.
