The Relationship Between Happiness and the Self
The dominant understanding of happiness in the 20th century was that man is not particularly well designed to achieve or be able to handle happiness. Unhappiness comes from everywhere, it's very difficult to know where it comes from and you can't really hold on to it. For Freud, as I just said, the human being is not really cut out for happiness. And society's role is to keep the human being under control. That's his view and why society is important. Reich, on the other hand, thought that society would really repress the human being. It was society's fault with all its rules and regulations and norms that people could not be as happy as they had the potential
