Religion was a force that shaped the cultural moors in europe, and even the make up of society. The country was divided up into parishes - there would be a church at the centre of each parish. And this parish church was really the hub of your community. Everything went through the church. It dictated the every day the liturgy and the liturgical calendar was central to mediaeval life.
