Synovial Sarcoma and the X18 Chromosome Translocation
The name synovial sarcoma is a misnomer. It's always operative with wide surgical resection and adjuvant radiotherapy. The S.Y.T.S.X fusion type is the most important prognostic factor, and as we mentioned, S.y.t.s.X.2 has better survival. These tumors occur around the joints of the arm or leg; they typically occur in younger adults less than 40 years of age.
