Imperialism, Isn't It?
The story does a good job of portraying the insidious and mundane ways that Imperial thought creeps into people, right? The idea that we are civilized, therefore, we are better than you. That's kind of those ideas are so ingrained in that society. I mean, like professor level and the other staff at Babel, their stance on why Britain deserves to keep all its silver is because all of the other colonies had opportunities to build their own translation centers. And they were just too lazy to or they didn't work hard enough to get to where Britain is.
