The Rise and Fall of the Sanctuary Cities
The idea of sanctuary cities is an outgrowth of what the churches were doing in the 80s. Churches gave refuge to undocumented Salvadorans and Guatemalan. By some estimates, as many as 250 Salvadorians are living in Los Angeles. Many come here via an underground railroad which leads from Mexico to Tucson.
