The Importance of War Planning in the Mediterranean Crisis

When the Mediterranean crisis occurred, those that were involved in rearmament planning strongly urged that any conflict to be avoided at almost any cost. Among military leaders, there was a belief that even if a war with Italy went exceptionally well and resulted in a victory, it would leave the British helpless against future aggression from Germany and Japan. It was seen as absolutely critical that while these programs were underway, the British government fined away to maintain good relations with other powers like Japan and Germany.
