The Origins of Cotton
Only once did a cotton species actually develop fiber. One time in Africa, some place in Africa, there was a mutation that produced a fiber on the seeds. That plant developed into two cultivated species, which are sometimes referred to as old world cotton. And this A genome cotton, which has fuzz on it, has fiber, gets to Mexico, where it cross breeds with a local cotton species that doesn't have fiber and produces what geneticists call D.
