Cervical Ribs - What Is It?

The cervical rib is an anatomical anomaly that is an extension of the C7 transverse process. It curls around on the side of the neck and comes down and has a fibrous attachment usually to the first rib. When it is present, the brachial plexus and the neurological structures are draped across the top of that extra bony structure there.
