The History of the Charter Movement

There were 150,000 people gathered on Glasgow Green in May 1838. The Newport Rising was intended to be the starting point for a series of dominoed rising if you will which would travel north up the country. This culminates in a show trial as well with Ferguson Conner in the dock along with more than 50 other charters. They planned to have what was called the sacred month which was a series of strikes across the industrial areas particularly in Lancashire.
