The Shays Rebellion
There was an open struggle between ordinary people and upscale investors. The Shays Rebellion is the famous thing that kind of drives the elites to the convention. In Pennsylvania, which had a much more radical government, a radically democratic legislature withdrew the public bank's charter from its private owners. And then in Massachusetts with a conservative government, they'll do it illegally when they say no checks on democracy.
