Roger Mortimer's Escape From the Tower of London
It is 700 years to the month since Roger Mortimer made an audacious escape from the tower of London. He and his accomplice are brought on trial in July 1322 but have their sentence commuted a year later. A co-conspirator, Gerald Alspay, or Gerald Alspeth, then goes to Roger's cell which is supposedly in the highest part of the tower. The pair take refuge there and start to conspire over the next three years. They eventually make it across the Thames before boarding a boat for the Isle of Wight where they're expected.
