Can Crypto Really Solve the Problem of Digital Micro Payments?

The last time bitcoin fees were low enough for anything close to micro payments was june of 20 15, when the cost of a simple cent broke five cents. But while it's not going to happen on the bit coin base chain, fees low enough to support sub dollar payments have remained both a technical holy grail and common promotional refrain in crypto. There's been an endless spectrum about new business models that can be realized once digital micro payments are feasible. The essence of the problem is that even if we can solve the technical challenges of micro payments, users would find the decision to spend a dime or a nickel more annoying than the actual act.
