A lot of us aren't even occupying our body, so we need help from another person to kind of provide that mirror in a way. When you are breathing for an extended period of time through your mouth, you are mimicking a trauma response. We're turning the sympathetic nervous system on completely and it gives someone's biology an opportunity to discharge. The somatic understanding is that you are a bottom up process. You are an animal first, you are a mental creature second.
