The Role of the Codpiece in Bias Cut Hose
Bias cut hose needs a flap in the front to cover up between what were. originally two separate legs. A crotch seam comes in and then you need a cod flap in order to hold the hose together. The Museum of London has a collection of very very simple cod pieces made of very unassuming materials but many many layers of padding that give them their pronounced shape.
