The Threat Spotlight on Extortion Attacks
Ukrainian diplomat was targeted by cyber criminals demanding $2,000 to sell his 2011 beamer. Barracuda released a threat spotlight on extortion attacks this morning but these are not the large-scale ransomware extortions most seen in recent headlines. The attacker threatens to expose a compromising picture or information about an individual unless the victim pays money. Attackers often purchase victims' login credentials or find them through data breaches to prove that their threat is legitimate.
