Is This a Scam?

When I get a cold email, my first thought is this a scam. When I look at someone's profile on LinkedIn for the first time, someone wants to connect with me. The first thing I'm trying to assess is how legit is this person? Is this someone that I should know? Or is this person just like a low quality leech in some way?"
