"I never worked in a lab at undergrad. I was like, you know, no idea what working in the lab means," she says. "My first project was a project on molecular beacons." Her PhD mentor had been one of the first people to sequence RNA and discover mini variant RNA. She also helped develop real time PCR machines for detecting drug resistant TB.
