I Think It's a Low Probability Event That This Is Going to Go Somewhere
The plausible basis for getting Trump's testimony would be if you were going to try to elicit from him that there had been some back channel between the White House and the Proud Boys. If all you're going to do is call the president in order to talk about things that are already in the record that happened, it seems like it's probably more of a litigation stunt than anything else. And then there's also sort of a First Amendment protest sort of defense that just humanizing them.
