The Holy Spirit and Water in Genesis 1

The Spirit of God appears as some bird-like manifestation of God hovering over the surface of the deep. The same verb is used in the book of Deuteronomy to describe how a bird hovers over her nest. When you read Genesis in connection with the baptism of Jesus, and when you see the Holy Spirit active in both in connection with water, it tells you something. It tells you that the Spirit is connected with this water in creation to bring about life.
