The Apple II: A Powerful Computer
IBM tried to get a version of DOS that would be compatible with the microprocessor they were using, the 8088 from Intel. Microsoft didn't own this operating system at all. IBM left digital research without an agreement in place and Sam's was desperate to find an alternative. Bill Gates saw Q-DOS as the solution for IBM's woes, but he didn't let Peterson know about it.
