What's the History of Afghanistan?
For most the twentieth century, afghanistan was a pretty normal country. Then it suffered some exogenous shocks that were pretty unique in the world. I can't find a good parallel to it almost anywhere in world. The soviet union comprehensively destroyed a nation. How do you begin to undo the effects of all those years of destruction and tyranny? That's a tough challenge.
