The History of Dog Shows
Before the 1850s, we have what we would call dog breeds, but they're often interchangeable with dog types. The first kind of dog show that really does that is in 1859, and that takes place in Newcastle upon time. It's about a show that judges a dog on how it looks, rather than the job it was supposed to do. And so that becomes much more about form rather than function.
