The primary survey should involve the ABCs, that is airway breathing in circulation. Manual inline traction should be applied whenever cervical immobilization is removed for securing the airway. A seatbell sign that is abdominal ecomosis should raise suspicion for flexion distraction injuries of the thoracolumbar spine. Nonoperative treatment of cervical spine injuries include a cervical collar and early active range of motion.
