There was definitely contact before the traditional foundation date for masalia of 600 c. We have corinthian potteryimports a century before this or so, and other evidence of trade between the wider mediterranean world and essentially the area round the mouth of the rhone. And there very well could have been a mass influx of facians at some point around 600 as well. But in terms of describing the people who came and helped settle this era, i don't think i'd say that they were entirely unfamiliar with it,.
