Early Christian Writings
Christianity could not have become a world religion if it had not, if you like, piggy backd on the greek language. So far as we know, jesus and his disciples in lile spoke a local language called aromaic. But none of the christian new testament was ever written down in that language. In the eastern part of the roman empire where these people lived and died, the common language was greek. And thanks to those christian writings, we have not only the teachings of jesus preserved, but also a very close record of the kind of greek that was used for communication.
