The Problem With Brandis' First Trial
Armin Brandis was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for cannibalism. In 2004, Germany had no law against cannibalism; the prosecution tried to charge him with manslaughter rather than murder because it just didn't seem like homicide. The video shows Brandis as a willing victim who is not coerced into eating another person's flesh. And so that was going to be very, very problematic for prosecutors.
