The Importance of Open Source in OPC

Open source is important to have open source there because network means interoperability. In practice, it doesn't work out that way primarily because so much of the standard is optional. So when somebody says OPC ready, I could have two OPC products that have the OPC logo on them and they don't even talk to each other. For me, it's really the point. Maybe there are two perspectives. One perspective is for the product or for the tools at the end, their open source really ends if it starts to be interesting for a lot of people. That means open source ends in that point where I know not has a great community.
