The Mongols Conquer the Middle East
The son of the former ruler, someone called Jalal al-Din, he goes by ship from India where he'd been taking refuge to what today we modern day Iraq. He begins to try and strengthen what's left of the western part of the Khwarezmian Empire which hasn't yet fallen to the Mongols. In doing this, in trying to build a power base in which to sort of retrench his authority, he makes a lot of enemies in the process. A lot of people feel threatened because they think, well, maybe we're next. Yes, he wants to fight the Mongols, but that's not much good to us if he invades our territory
