Jersey and Guernsey - The Channel Islands

The channel islands were once part of the duchy of normandy. For about a hundred and 50 years, normandy was held by the kings of england. The french king philip the second set about taking back normandy from the english. They eventually appointed a bailiff for both jersey and guernsey. As they were regions governed by a bailiff, they were known as bailewicks - which is what we still call them today.
