Jane Austen: A Gentle Lady and Fair Queen
Jane was a much less divisive figure at court than Anne Boleyn had been. Many agreed with Sir John Russell's verdict that she was as gentle a lady as ever I knew, and as fair a queen as any in Christendom. She wasn't going to stand on ceremony or be sacrificed to her principles in that respect. This was a New England now, and Jane had to be part of that.
