The Persia of Feasting
There are other elements that we don't necessarily today associate with luxury, but the Persians definitely did. Persian kings never put their feet on the ground. They always walked on some shoes carpets or put their feet up on foot stools. And he's being shaded by a parasol, which isn't something that we consider particularly masculine or kingly objects today. But it was for the Persians, a symbol of great kingship. We see this local king living in Anatolia, adopting this to show his Persian ties and I think is really fascinating.
