Lady Jane Grey was a great niece of Henry VIII. She was selected on the basis of her religion, do you think? It's a complicated story because Edward had been thinking about what he wanted to happen with the succession before he realized he was so ill that his death was likely. The throne was to be empty until one of those women gave birth to a boy who could be the next Protestant king of England. But this rather sort of schoolroom exercise was overtaken by events in the spring and early summer of 1553.
