The p a system is very much a safety device. We use itto giveor information to our passengers, but primarily it's there as a way for us to communicate with both the passengers and the cabin crew on mass in the event of an emergency. So if you do notice that the pa is not coming through to your part of the aircraft when you're a passenger, please alert the capping crew. The back up are loud hales that are positioned usually around the doors, so that if the p a system isn't working, so you've had a power failure,. Cabin crew can grab those and bellow at the passengers through a loud haler, telling them what to do.
