The Minutemen and REM were both bands that I found out about just from reading Peter Buck's interviews. There was this music that survived not because anybody was hyping it or because anybody was building workable infrastructures behind it but because it really mattered to people who passed it on to other people. You go back to these records that you listen to and it's like your home again and it's so much fun.
