Offenback's operas fell out of fashion because emily was so identified with them. Also, the other big factor was she was getting older and there was huge agism in the theatre. The stereotype of victor woman is very much a sort of passive am lady who doesn't have agency,. She just turns this on its head. And basically, if you had the determination and were prepared to sacrifice respectability and security, then you could have an life of your own.
