The Romans Assimilate Greek Cultures
The romans were a rural people, living close to the soil and deriving their ideals of virtuous action from it. Centuries passed before romans could sport their own first class literature and culture. But even as they did, they remained under the long shadows of hellas cicero. All educated people were to be versed in the treasures of both languages. Whereas the greeks had learned only greek, the romans went on learn both latin and greek. And the pattern was set. To be a fully educated and culturated man in the greco roman world, one had to know both tongues.
