The Pros and Cons of England's Academy System
England's aim at international level is to be a bit like France. What France have done, French players play all over the place. I remember Gerard Hulier sort of saying this in an interview once when he was showing somebody around Clef Fontaine and so on. This is achievable for England but it would take an awful lot. And then he sort of winked and smiled and went,Yeah, yeah, but it probably won't though. Well, this gives me a tiny bit of hope, to be honest. Look at England now going into tournaments. You don't think that we're going to be embarrassed by Iceland again,. There is that sense of purpose and whatnot.
