Metastatic Disease of the Spine
Patients may have neurologic deficits caused by compression of the spinal cord. Myeloma and thyroid carcinoma are often cold on bone scan, and this should be evaluated with a skeletal survey. A biopsy should be carried out in patients where a primary carcinoma is not identified. Remember that you should not treat a bone lesion without a tissue diagnosis of the lesion.
