The Role of Women in the Military
The ability to live freely and pursue a life without constraint is very common in cross dress soldiers. Some of the women when we read accounts would clearly be what we would call in modernized trans. They're clearly women who identified as men now these categories have to be very careful because they don't neatly map onto historical understandings.
