Is IV Contrast Really Necessary for Your Kidneys?

Persistent acute kidney injury was more common in the patients who did not receive IV contrast. 32.7% versus 22.9%. So now that's probably in part because people didn't receive contrast media if they were perceived to be at an increased risk of adverse kidney outcomes. That might explain why there's such a big difference there. I don't think that's suggesting that contrast is actually protective or helpful to your kidneys. But it does suggest that it's not bad for your kidneys.
