The Godfather and Sound Design
There's a great scene with Michael Corleone when he seeks revenge against a rival in an Italian restaurant the music is held back until after the climax and sound design carries the scene. Francis didn't want to dilute that by having music underneath the restaurant scene so it seemed to need something to underpin the counter currents underneath the scene. I had the idea of using the elevated train sound because I grew up in New York not far from where that restaurant was supposed to be and I knew that that part of the Bronx was a rat's nest of various lines of the elevated train system. It's like the tea kettle you know right so many scenes and movies where the tension goes up this
