The idea of the future was previously more proximal to our present. We could see maybe how we'd get certain places, and now the future is wholly fantastical. And yet for Mark, that's not happened by accident. The slow cancellation of the future has been an almost ideologically speaking and intentional act to keep us happy where we are.
