The University of California and the Black Panther Party
The Black Panther Party started with a study group at Merrick College, which was a community college in West Oakland. In the post-war period all over the world, you see a doubling of the student age population. The university has been an important incubator of political ideas and I've never liked this pitting against unions versus universities.
