CNN paid Jeffrey Lord, who is a pro-Trump stooge to be a contributor and come on CNN. It's effectively ensuring the competition doesn't get those people right. A really valuable contributor might be a Maggie Haberman if she is breaking news all the time about Trump or what have you. For the large majority of contributors, there's not really a lot of crossover between Fox on the one side and MSNBC and CNN on the other.
