In 1924 he had a leg amputated and, you know, his conditions were economically very fragile. He seems to be driven by an enormous energy and determination, which you know you note until the very last moments of his life. Mariette came back from Italy in 1923 as a committed Marxist but soon began to see himself not any longer as an artist, but as an organizer. The path wasn't completely clear because anarchism was very influential in Peru still among the among workers with its idea of organizing themselves at work.
