Chimps were given electric shocks if they did nothing for 35 seconds. They would continue to get an electric shock every five seconds until they responded by pulling a lever, whether right or wrong. One chimpanzee was so angry that when he's bobbing around and splash down in his mercury capsule, he manages to rip off his restraint suit.
