How to Start a Fantasy Book

First lines are beginnings. Focus on that what Dan said more than on making something that's going to make people laugh or it doesn't have to be a punch to the face. This is critical in the fantasy genre. And the science fiction genre you are world building. An establishing shot is acceptable.
