Hardwick Hall - A Display of Power
Bess of hardwick not only had built the house, she also owned the glass factory which made the windows for hardwick hall. She changed the axis of the great hall so that it was a so rather than you entering on the long side of the Great Hall, you would enter through the middle of the shorter side. And if that weren't enough, there is the longest, long gallery in britoin behind with this wall of windows. So it was not just about showing off status. It was about saying, i have t control over the building, over the innovations in this building.
